JIMBOOMBA shoppers can support children suffering life-changing conditions this month as part of Coles’ partnership with Queensland’s children hospice, Hummingbird House.
Shoppers at Jimboomba and Yarrabilba Coles can support the charity by purchasing a $2 donation card to help Hummingbird House provide essential services.
The four donation card designs have been drawn by children and families who have relied on the Hummingbird House for support.
Mikaela Norris, 17, used a paintbrush in her mouth to design one of the donation cards due to a medical condition limiting the use of her hands.
“It took me a few weeks to complete but I thought it would be a really good gift to give Hummingbird House to say thank you for everything the team has done for me,” she said.
“I have had a few long stays at the hospice so my parents can have a break too, and it’s great to be able to hang out with the really cool staff and some of the other kids...”
The money will go towards providing short break stays, family support services, creative therapies and care for children and families.
Hummingbird House general manager Dr Fiona Hawthorne said the initiative would help the charity reach more families needing help.
“Coles’ team members and customers helped build Hummingbird House and now each year they help provide our services free of charge to Queensland kids and families,” Dr Hawthorne said.
Coles state general manager Jerry Farrell said 15 cents would be donated to Hummingbird House for every 12 pack of Coles bakery cookies sold until October 30.
“With the support of our generous customers and team members, we’re thrilled to have already raised more than $1.2 million for Hummingbird House since 2016,” he said.
The donation card promotion runs until October 30.
Hummingbird House has provided accommodation to more than 120 children and their families since opening in October, 2016.
