A BEENLEIGH magistrate warned she was granting the last and final adjournment in the case against Logan mayor Luke Smith.
Magistrate Jane Bentley said the case must move on to the next stage in the process when it next appeared before the court.
Ms Bentley said she expected both the prosecution and defence would then notify the courts on how each would proceed to a committal hearing and whether cross examination would be required.
Cr Smith faces two charges of perjury, one of official corruption and one of failing to change his register of business interests. He was not required to appear in court yesterday. He has vowed to fight the charges.
The charges arose from an ongoing Operation Belcarra Crime and Corruption Commission investigation which examined the conduct of candidates involved in the Gold Coast City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Logan City Council and Ipswich City Council local government elections.
Defence lawyers applied for a six-week adjournment to read new paperwork provided by the prosecution, which applied for the last adjournment to prepare its case.
Ms Bentley adjourned the charges until November 22, warning it was the last adjournment that would be granted before the case moved on to the next step in the process.
Cr Smith also faces unrelated charges of assault, obstruct police and wilful damage.
