SCENIC Rim residents may be reaching for shorts and umbrellas today as forecasters predict top temperatures of 30 degrees before an afternoon storm.
Bureau of Meteorology Queensland forecaster Gordon Banks said reports of a supercell storm were not accurate but the BOM would be keeping an eye on the weather and issuing warnings as appropriate.
“It looks like a pretty good day right now but it is likely to be hot and humid and there are some severe storms around,” he said.
“For now, we have relatively clear skies and we haven’t seen anything of note yet.
“There are no current warnings in place but we are just giving people a bit of a heads-up about severe storms.”
He said there had been storms producing large hail and damaging winds in parts of Queensland over the past five days.
”Not all severe storms are supercells,” he said.
“Supercells are like the high end of thunderstorms and if that happens we will issue a warning and tag the storm a supercell.
Mr Banks said the hot temperatures would not last but hopefully the skies would deliver enough rain to do some good in the Scenic Rim.
“There will be a massive drop in temperature between today and tomorrow,” he said.
“For the rest of the week it is likely to be cool, overcast and drizzly, lasting into the weekend.”
