HILLCREST has a new piece of public art.
The sculpture, called Ancient Blossom, is made of Helidon freestone – freshwater sandstone – is 210cm high, 250cm wide, 90cm deep and weighs approximately 3,500 kilograms.
Local councillor Laurie Smith launched the sculpture, created by artist Antone Bruinsma and located in gardens beneath iconic Wineglass water tower, on Friday, October 5.
Cr Smith paid for the sculpture through the divisional infrastructure and capital improvement program fund.
It was chosen from three designs to take pride of place in the gardens.
The winning design was chosen by the Public Art Advisory Group which includes Cr Smith, council staff and Logan West Community ArtShare Alliance’s Sherry Austin.
Mr Bruinsma said the work explored the secrets of beauty found within nature, a continuation of life and the importance of acknowledging and allowing relationships to grow and reach full potential.
