FANS of folk and contemporary acoustic music can rejoice. Tickets are on sale for the Festival of Small Halls with Kerry on the list of regional centres included on the 21-date Woodfordia Summer Tour.
Organised by the organisers of Woodford Folk Festival, the tour features some accomplished musicians taking part in the country’s largest dedicated regional music tour.
These include Canada’s two-time JUNO award-winner, Old Man Luedecke and third-generation Australian singer songwriter Lucy Wise.
Produced as a not-for-profit under the wing of folk festival promoter, Woodfordia, Festival of Small Halls brings the best in contemporary folk and acoustic music to those regional towns often left off big tour routes.
Festival of Small Halls executive producer Eleanor Rigden was excited about the show at Kerry Hall on November 21.
“This is the first time we have ever worked there and we are looking forward to it – the community is so wonderful,” she said.
“What we find with these shows is they remind people that we’re all in this together, that we’re in it as a team even when times are hard.
“The music focuses on the things that bring us together rather than the things that divide. I know it’s going to be perfect at the Kerry Hall, it’s such a beautiful building and the community there is already doing those things.”
Ms Rigden said the tour aimed to lift the spirits of drought-stricken regional towns with shows that rekindle the time-old tradition of gathering in the local small hall for a special night of live music, storytelling and community connection.
