BRISBANE tennis sensation John Millman’s victory against Roger Federer inspired Jimboomba tennis fans to take part in a mock US open event.
Future Pros tennis coach AJ Thompson said 80 people competed at the US Open Red Ball Challenge at Emmaus College tennis courts on Saturday, September 15.
Junior club members partnered with parents on the court for an exciting day of outdoor fun.
Ms Thompson said Millman’s career highlight victory against arguably the world’s greatest tennis player hit home for the juniors.
“A lot of them are inspired by John Millman’s win, it brings it closer to home,” she said.
“His win has covered the front and back pages of major newspapers … his journey is a real journey.
“He defied the odds.”
The contest for overall winner came down to Kiss Our Ask The Gs, led by Debbie and Dylan Gilbert against Shadow Hunters Robert Lindner and Hunter Thompson.
Both teams won trophies with Debbie and Dylan coming out on top by one game.
Ms Thompson said she was impressed with the creative team names and artwork completed by juniors.
“The team names were outstanding, one team were called the avengers and another team were the revengers,” she said.
“Our goal to see families enjoying tennis together was achieved.”
