SOUTH-WEST Logan wildlife carer Alma Searle says no to sleep, but will never say no to an animal.
This is why Professionals Jimboomba awarded Ms Searle with a ‘Feel Good Friday’ community hero award this week.
Megan Behn, from Professionals Jimboomba nominated Ms Searle after learning about her compassion for wildlife in the Logan community.
“About a month ago, I ran into Alma and her partner Ted at the bakery at Greenbank. They noticed me walking down the path towards the bakery and asked if my daughters would like to have a look at the little baby joey they had just collected after it lost it’s Mum,” she said.
“Alma had it wrapped up in a pouch and took the time to show my daughters. Not only are they one of a few dedicated wildlife carers in our community we should be thankful for they are also out there trying to be their voice.”
Professionals Jimboomba principal Heidi Taylor said the business was constantly on the look out for community champions.
“So many people volunteer their time and nobody ever really recognises them,” she said.
“If anyone in the community knows someone they believe needs to be recognised for what they do, please nominate them and we will look into it.”
Ms Searle said she was surprised by the kind gesture.
“I thought it was a prank and it was hard to believe, but it is beautiful and I really appreciate it,” she said.
Ms Searle was called away from her award ceremony to rescue a joey stuck inside a fence at North Maclean.
She received a certificate, lottery tickets and a plant.
