THE Logan community united to support Multiple Sclerosis research in a bid to one day cure the chronic disease.
Almost 100 people raised $20,700 in the lead up to the Walk 2 Cure MS at Meakin Park on Saturday, September 15, exceeding the $20,000 target.
The money has been donated to MS Queensland to support research efforts for better treatments and a cure.
Greenbank campaigner Penelope Miller has personal experience with Multiple Sclerosis after relapsing three years ago.
Ms Miller said it was good to see a large number of people make an effort to raise the profile of the disease.
“It was good seeing people at different stages of MS and being able to walk and see how they were going. The event had a good community feel,” she said.
“We need a lot more awareness of MS and for people to understand what it is...people are only starting to understand what it is after they are diagnosed.”
Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive neurological disease affecting the central nervous system.
More than 23,000 Australians suffer from MS, including 3700 Queenslanders.
The average age of people diagnosed with MS is 30 and three out of four Australians with the disease are women.
