A JIMBOOMBA cricketer inspired by spin bowling legends Shane Warne and Brad Hogg has reached a pivotal point in his career.
Cameron Steinhardt has won a spot in the under 16 Ipswich Hornets Lord’s Taverners team to compete against a range of metro and regional teams.
The young off-spin bowler said he was determined to make the most of the opportunity.
“I have never made a team of such high quality...I have made the SEQ State Championships but this is another level. It could get me to Queensland level,” he said.
Steinhardt said he hopes to fulfill ambitions to play for the Australian Cricket team.
In the meantime, Jimboomba Cricket Club players William Whatmore, Kie Specogna, Hayden Carthouser and Noah Plater have been selected to the under 12 Logan District juniors cricket team.
Cameron Thurlow, Hayden Steinhardt and Darcy Shelley were also selected for the under 13 Logan Districts junior team following trials on Sunday, September 16.
Jimboomba Cricket Club secretary Juanita Plater said this would give Jimboomba cricketers an opportunity to thrive.
“Their selection in the Logan District Juniors Cricket teams means that they will progress to selection and trial games against Ipswich and Beaudesert Districts to vie for a position in the SEQ team to compete and contest the state Championships to be held in Rockhampton this December,” she said.
“All these boys are seasoned players, and have played for several seasons in a variety of formats with the Jimboomba Cricket Club.”
The Jimboomba Cricket Club at Henderson Road is set to start the 2018-19 season with increased membership across a range of age groups.
