AUSTRALIAN Motocross champion Dean Ferris has posted to instagram about the season ending crash that saw him carried from the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championships at Jimboomba in stretcher.
“As most of you know I went down hard at Jimboomba on the weekend,” he said.
“I’ve been in hospital since but hopefully will be out in a day or two.
“I suffered from a contusion to my right lung so doctors are monitoring it very closely.
“Everything else seems to be clear. Thanks for all the support and get well messages.
“It’s been a very long time since I crashed and ended up in hospital … not ideal but will still learn from it.
“I’ll rest up for a while and keep everyone updated with my recovery time.”
Ferris suffered a blow to the head, chest injuries and a lung contusion.
He was was transported to hospital and treated in ICU, where he spent the night before he was moved to the general ward.
Ferris qualified second fastest to American Justin Brayton before he crashed in a heat.
Brayton went on to victory.

Early this year, Ferris announced his intention to quit domestic championship racing in his homeland and head to the USA full-time for 2019.
