HOMEBUYERS searching for kitchen design inspiration will find a feast for eyes – and stomach – at a new Flagstone display village opening on Saturday September 22.
Seventeen new homes by top Queensland builders will open their doors at Boom! Flair and Flavours.
Celebrity cook Georgia Barnes will put state-of-the-art cooking areas at three display houses on show. Her workshops will feature affordable family meals, luscious desserts and barbecue sizzlers.
She will also share her thoughts on what makes a fabulous kitchen.
“Kitchens are a very personal thing and probably one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when building a new home,” she said.
“If you have a great kitchen, its motivation to have people over. Even if you can’t cook, a simple roast with fresh salads is an easy, homely meal that feeds a crowd.
“I have a veggie patch at the back door. It is so nice to share recipes and fresh produce with your friends and neighbours, particularly when you have just moved in to a new area.”
As well as the choice of appliances, easy storage, convenient powerpoints and a big benchtop are essential ingredients for a kitchen with functionality and style. Georgia prefers soft-closing cupboards without handles, for safety and a sleek minimalist look.
“When it comes to design, bench space is often overlooked. If you are building a new home you can never have enough if it, not just for functionality, but the kitchen is always the place in the house where people want to stand around and congregate,” she said.
“A well-stocked pantry can be a game-changer too and so much easier than searching for things in the back of those dreaded cupboards.
“Although induction appliances are becoming popular because they are quick and easy to use, I love cooking with gas. It is very organic seeing the flame and a very measurable way of cooking for me.
“My oven is the thing I love most because I love baking and never say no to dessert.”
Boom! Flair and Flavours is a free event hosted by Flagstone developers Peet Limited. While mums and dads explore the display village, there will be roving performers, a jumping castle, entertainment and treats for children.
Ms Barnes’ cooking demonstrations will be held at:
- 2-3pm – Best of BBQ at GJ Gardner Homes
- 3-4pm – Quick and healthy meals at Spectrum Homes
- 4-5pm – Best of desserts at Metricon Homes
