REIGNING Supercross champion Justin Brayton dominated the SX1 main event at the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship at Jimboomba on Saturday.
Early mistakes from rival racers in the SX1 event led to a comfortable win for the world number five supercross racer with Brayton crossing the finish line 5.26 seconds ahead of second placed Brett Metcalfe.
Metcalfe led early in the race after overtaking Jace Owen, however a stall set him back leaving victory out of sight.
Luke Clout finished the 20-lap race in third despite a crash at turn one.
Dan Reardon (Yamaha) and Owen finished in the top five with Dylan Long, Jesse Dobson, Nick Sutherland, Jesse Madden and Robbie Marshall trailing from sixth to tenth.
Three-time motocross champion Dean Ferris suffered head and chest injuries after a heavy fall during his heat.
He is undergoing scans in hospital.
Jay Wilson reigned supreme in the SX2 category with a 4.981 second advantage ahead of American Bradley Taft.
Josh Osby led the main race until Wilson charged ahead, leaving Osby in thied behind Taft.
Hayden Mellross pushed for fourth ahead of Jacob Hayes.
Dakota Alix, Wilson Todd, Richie Evans, Dylan Wills and Jackson Richardson made the top 10.
The Junior Lites division was taken out by Blake Fox ahead of Jake Cuka and Brandon Steel.
Top honours in the 86cc class were awarded to Reid Taylor followed by Brad West and Jack Mather.
Defending champion Justin Brayton said the Australian Supercross champion was an impressive spectacle for fans and causal observers.
“The competition this year is awesome when you consider there’s guys coming from all over the world to compete,” he said.
This is the fourth consecutive year Jimboomba has hosted a national supercross round.
Round two of the Australian Supercross Championship will begin at Coolum, on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, October 6.
