THERE’S been a lot of tough talk on the subject of the Mount Lindesay Highway. Federal Wright MP Scott Buchholz and Queensland Transport Minister Mark Bailey are the latest politicians to add their voices to the noise.
Logan Country City Safe committee chair David Kenny says we are in the middle of a civil war that has left citizens and Logan council to advocate.
“North of Jimboomba we have the red army safely in the fort of Logan and south of Jimboomba, we have the blue army safely in the fort of the Scenic Rim,” he says.
“Meanwhile, it’s the community that run the Mount Lindesay gauntlet trying not only to survive the experience but avoid it altogether.”
Queensland Transport minister Mark Bailey points out state and federal governments are already working together to fund safety works at North Maclean. And preparation work has started ahead of road works with mature gums recently felled roadside and since chipped and mulched.
Mr Kenny wants three levels of government to work together to fix Mount Lindesay. We asked you what you thought and you told us on our Facebook page.
“Our own councillors can't work together. Good luck getting three levels of government to work together,” Grant Kerwin said.
“I think we all knew this would become an election issue – the only problem with that is that all plans seem to get put on hold until the new or revamped admin review and work through plans,” Sean Phillips said.
“Dear Mr Buchholz: The LNP were in power in Qld under (Campbell) Newman prior to 2012 elections and failed to do anything about the Mt Lindesay Highway. Both LNP and Labor have failed dismally in rectifying congestion and safety on this highway,” Dawn Blackburner said.
“No more bloody traffic lights to slow the highway down. Install roundabouts so the traffic can continuously flow,” Ross Barber said.
