TWO grass fires have struck properties in quick succession within the south-west Logan region.
Jimboomba police Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said a serious fire at Swan Road, Jimboomba on August 22 and a shed fire at Ison Road, Greenbank on September 4, showed people needed to be aware of fire regulations and precautions.
“We have had two fires in the area recently during total fire bans and they have gotten out of people’s control on their properties,” he said.
The Swan Road blaze promoted Queensland Fire and Emergency Services smoke inhalation warnings to residents in surrounding areas.
Jimboomba fire investigator Gail Steppens said there were simple measures people could adopt to reduce the risk of fire.
“We ask for people to maintain their yards...keep gutters cleared of leaves and try not to have too many tall dead trees close to the property,” she said.
“The other big thing is to make sure there is access for emergency vehicles...if we can’t get down to the property safely or quickly it makes it hard...if it is dangerous for us to enter we may not even go down.”

Ms Steppens said it was vital for people to be aware of fire warnings circulating through media and be mindful of fire regulations and restrictions available through Logan Council.
“Make sure you comply with the conditions otherwise penalties apply,” she said.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford said eight waterbombing planes and helicopters would be based in Queensland under an 84-day contract to give firefighters the upper hand this bushfire season.
The aircrafts are based at Toowoomba and Bundaberg, but will be deployed to other areas in need of support.
“Positioning the fleet at these locations will ensure an aerial observation and waterbombing service is available to communities and personnel across the state,” Mr Crawford said.
