STATE Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has called on the Queensland Labor government to deliver the Mount Lindesay Highway plan promised at the last election.
Ms Frecklington visited the Mount Lindesay Highway at Cedar Vale on Thursday, August 30 with LNP Scenic Rim MP and Logan Country Safe City chairman David Kenny.
She said it was time for the Queensland government to deliver a long-term solution to reduce congestion for motorists making the daily commute.
“Linus Power needs to stump up for the community and stop misleading them,” Ms Frecklington said.
“He stood on the side of the highway in November last year and said an updated plan was coming soon.
“Well it is August 30 and we still haven’t seen that plan. Don’t mislead the community any longer, they want certainty.”
Logan MP Linus Power defended his record on delivering highway upgrades.
“We have got more to do on the Mount Lindesay Highway, but what we have done is make all of the major intersections safer,” he said.
“The next stage is to get the major piece of four laning done.”
Mr Power said he would push for funding to join four lane projects together from Park Ridge South to Jimboomba.
Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause said he was not convinced the Queensland government was doing enough to bust congestion in Jimboomba in the long term.
“There are five sets of traffic lights through there. Even if we had a beautiful two lane gold plated highway on both sides of Jimboomba you will still have congestion for people who travel everyday because of the lights,” he said.
“I don’t see any planning for that...they need to make that a priority because it is a long term project.”
Mr Power said the 2017-18 budget delivered 42 times more funding than the former LNP Newman government.
Ms Frecklington said it was time to focus on the future.
“This is a guy who is struggling to actually stand on his own record. Lets stop worrying about the politics of the past,” she said.
“We took a commitment to the last election to put an additional $60 million funding into the Mount Lindesay Highway.”
Ms Frecklington also welcomed the appointment of Wright MP Scott Buchholz as the federal assistant minister for Roads and Transport.
“He is a very loud and strong advocate for upgrades to the Mount Lindesay Highway,” she said.
“He has a seat at the table and I look forward to Scott Buchholz working with the state Labor government who have been silent on this matter.”
Further comment has been sought from Mr Buchholz but he did not respond by deadline.
Logan Country Safe City chairman David Kenny said it was critical for all levels of government to take a bi-partisan approach to fix the Mount Lindesay Highway
“It was nice to have the state Opposition Leader come out and agree that the Mount Lindesay Highway is a problem for all three levels of government,” he said.
“I look forward to the state and federal government sitting down at a table to fix the problem.
“We want to move forward and not live in the past.”
