JUNIORS are preparing to defend their titles with the open Jimboomba Tennis Club annual tournament set to start in September.
Jimboomba tennis champions Levi Cairns (under 16 boys), Ciara Cairns (under 12 girls) and Max Mahoney (under 10 boys) are training to retain their age group wins in last year’s tournament.
Seniors will contest the tournament from 8am on September 7 to 9 while the juniors compete on September 16.
The under 10 and 12 juniors will compete from 8am to 12pm while the under 14 and 16 divisions play from 12.30pm to 4.30pm.
Jimboomba coach Brett Day said he was looking forward to seeing how the 2017 junior champions fare in the 2018 tournament.
“Max Mahoney has a good chance and has improved a lot over the past 12 months,” he said.
“His strength is his competitiveness. What he lacks in height he makes up for in persistence.
“Levi is a very good striker of the ball. He just sometimes lacks a bit of consistency.
“Ciara is very athletic and moves around the court quite well.”
There will be BBQ food and drinks available each day and the club will be open to spectators.
