JIMBOOMBA Thunder’s Under 17 side progress through to the next round of the Rugby League Gold Coast semi-finals after a gutsy win over local rivals Beaudesert on the weekend.
In spite of a strong start to the game Thunder trailed Kingfishers 12-0 at half time and had to dig deep in the second half.
A hat trick to second rower Karl Langi and two brilliant sideline conversions from 5/8 Lindsey Fox, along with some terrific defence inspired the boys to an 18-12 victory.
The 17s will play in the grand final qualifier at Ormeau next weekend.
This weekend, the remainder of Jimboomba’s RLGC competition sides will play at Beaudesert for a place in the grand final.
Club president Neil Richards was delighted.
“It’s been a wonderful year for the club,” he said.
“Our under 12s and 13s finished as minor premiers, with our 14s and 15s second.
“An extremely gutsy performance by our 17s has ensured every one of Jimboomba’s Gold Coast competition sides now has a shot at making the grand final in 2018.
“Really proud of all the coaches, staff and players in their achievements so far. Really hoping to see a lot of support for the boys this weekend.”
