STAFFERS from five unions rallied outside Logan City Council chambers at noon to call for a fair and equitable pay rise for mainly women workers.
Members from the Plumbers Union, Transport Workers Union, CFMEU and Australian Workers Union turned out in support of the Services Union and vowed to continue on with protected action.
The action follows a two-tier pay rise offer with a 2.25 per cent annual increase for some staff, while those on administrative levels 1 to 3 – mostly women who work in libraries and as administrative assistants and PAs – were offered 1 per cent a year plus an annual $550 lump sum over four years.
Services Union secretary Neil Henderson said unions would not budge.
“We are going to deliver a union outcome because it will be a fair outcome – and not the sort of rubbish they want to serve up to us … We are in this for the long haul,” Mr Henderson said.
Friday’s action followed a council pledge to celebrate its women workers with a pledge made via the 100 days of change campaign.
