NURTURING the development of young children is all part of the job for south-east Queensland Trainee of the Year Georgia Handley.
The 23-year-old Jimboomba resident has climbed the ladder at Aussie Adventures Child Care Education Centre at Park Ridge over the past two years from assistant to group leader.
She received the accolade at the Queensland Training Awards final on the Gold Coast.
Ms Handley was nominated for the Trainee of the Year award due to the quality of her work exceeding expectations for someone with a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education.
Ms Handley said the most satisfying part of her job was watching students learn concepts she taught them.
“Sometimes they will say a word I taught them and that is one of the most rewarding things,” she said.
“The reason I do the job is to build bonds with the kids. I want to be someone they feel comfortable around. I want them to feel supported, loved and appreciated.”
In the future, Ms Handley has ambitions to work as a guidance counsellor for young children in schools.
Ms Handley said she knew her award came with responsibility and she would work her hard to live up to the high standard she has set.
Ms Handley will be one of 11 south-east Queensland training award recipients to attend the Queensland Training Awards Gala Dinner on September 8 at Brisbane.
Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman it was great to see young people succeed in a diverse range of industry fields.
