Logan wetlands benefit from National Tree Day

To mark the day, Logan residents are urged to join tree planting events at Spring Mountain Reserve on July 28 and the Eagleby Wetlands on July 29.

City parks, animals, environment and waste committee chair Cr Jennie Breene said volunteers needed enclosed footwear and to bring sun protection and water.

“Council will provide all planting equipment and both events will also have a free sausage sizzle to feed our hard-working volunteers,” Cr Breene said.

“At Spring Mountain Reserve in Greenbank, we’ll be joined by the Oxley Creek Catchment Association to plant 1200 plants to improve the wetland reserve, while there’ll also be a wildlife display.

“At the Eagleby Wetlands, 1500 plants will be planted as part of the Peaks to Points Festival to improve the wetlands.

“A bird expert will also be on hand for a walk through the wetlands afterwards and to help attendees sight some of the beautiful birds that call Eagleby home.

“These are both great activities. Not only will volunteers be helping to improve Logan’s environment, it’s a good opportunity to spend some time with like-minded community members in the great outdoors.”

Planet Ark recently celebrated 22 years of National Tree Day National Tree Day started in 1996 and since then more than 4 million people have planted over 24 million trees and plants.
