LOGAN City Council services union staff have vowed to continue the fight for “fair and equitable” wage increases by rolling out work bans through Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19.
Services union staffers – most clerical and administrative workers – marched last month to protest against a two-tier wage offer that proposed to give some staff a 2.25 per cent annual increase while those on administrative levels 1-3 were offered one per cent a year plus an annual $550 lump sum over four years.
Services union secretary Neil Henderson said the union sought a three-year agreement with the same increase for everyone.
“The union will never sign off a deal which increases the gender pay gap,” he said.
The council last month released figures which showed workers wages had increased with the CPI while it negotiated a new enterprise bargaining agreement.
It said it was one of dozens of council negotiating agreements throughout Queensland.
Mr Henderson said many councils had finalised agreements which delivered decent pay rises to staff and – in many cases – added improvements and entitlements.
Councils that have signed off on agreements include Mackay, Isaac, Burke, SunshineCoast, Whitsunday, Townsville, Bulloo, Bundaberg, Murweh, Quilpie, Burdekin, Toowoomba, Blackall, Tambo, Hinchinbrook, Brisbane, Fraser Coast and the Central Highlands. Negotions continue at Logan, the Gold Coast and Morteon.
