JIMBOOMBA horse rider Ashlee Lowe is on the reserve list to represent Queensland for dressage at the National Championship in October.
This comes after the Jimboomba State School student won the under 12 primary CT80cm dressage class Interschool Equestrian Eventing and Combined Training State Championships at Warwick on the weekend.
Lowe, 10, faced four competitors in a close competition with her pony Toffee.
Mother, Emma Lowe, said it was the minute details which set first place apart from last place.
“Combined training consists of a dressage test and a showjumping round in the 80 centimetre height class. The total amount of penalties are added together and the person with (lowest score) is the winner,” she said.
“(There) was not much between Ashlee and the other competitors... A simple knocked rail or time penalty would have (been) the difference between first place and last.
“Not many under 12s can achieve the showjumping height of 80 centimetres so that in itself is amazing.”
Ashlee also placed sixth out of 24 riders during the Interschool Dressage State Championships at Caboolture from June 30 to July 3.
She has competed in dressage since 2016 and is already on track for the national spotlight.
Ms Lowe said she was proud of her daughter’s achievements.
“(Ashlee) rides at home twice a week and has a lesson once a week,” she said.
“She competes most weekends either for Interschool or the Jimboomba Pony Club.
“There actually aren’t many kids locally that compete in dressage or showjumping which is surprising considering its a rural area.”
The national dressage competition will be held at Victoria, Werribee from October 1 to 5.
