THE Mount Lindesay Highway has been ranked Queensland’s third worst road in an RACQ survey released this week.
The unroadworthy roads survey included 1643 responses across the state with the Mount Lindesay Highway attracting 70 complaints.
The Bruce Highway was listed as the most unroadworthy road with 94 complaints followed by Alma Road, Dakabin with 81. Waterford Tamborine Road was ranked as the 18th most unroadworthy road with 11 complaints.
A lack of overtaking opportunities, rough and narrow road surfacing, dangerous intersections, and traffic growth outstripping upgrades were all identified as problems.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said $74 million had been allocated for four major road projects on the Mount Lindesay Highway to ‘catch up’ after years of neglect.
“The Palaszczuk government is committed to investing in the growing Logan region and improving road safety after the highway was ignored for three years by the previous LNP government,” Mr Bailey said.
“...Works on the Mount Lindesay Highway are a focus for the Palaszczuk government, including road safety improvements at North Maclean, South Maclean and Camp Cable Road to Jimboomba.”
In reply, Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause said Labor should stop looking for someone to blame.
“Labor has been in office for 17 years and two months of the last 20 years – it’s a bit rich for Labor to point the finger at the LNP here,” Mr Krause said.
“When the LNP was in office for just two years and 10 months, we improved the Millstream St Aldwyn and Wearing Road intersections, and spend $19 million on improvements to the highway between Jimboomba and Beaudesert.
“Labor approved Yarrabilba, Flagstone and other dense residential development that is congesting the Mount Lindesay Highway.”
Logan Country Safe City chairman David Kenny was one of the 70 to criticise the state of the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Mr Kenny said the south-west Logan region was missing out compared to other areas in south-east Queensland.
“When you compare what we have got on the Mount Lindesay Highway compared to other areas like Ipswich and with the M1, we are the worst,” he said.
“We are talking about congestion at the moment...just wait until an extra 272,200 people turn up by late 2041.”
Mr Kenny said the priority needed to be the development of a long-term plan for the highway as opposed to more traffic lights being installed.
Logan MP Linus Power said he was on the side of the 70 people calling for urgent action on the highway.
“I’m on their side fighting for more funding and already have delivered in the budget six new projects totalling $83 million as well as the current works on the Mount Lindesay Highway and Logan (and) Gateway Motorway,” he said.
“The survey identified lack of opportunity to overtake slower vehicles. The four lane sections of upgrade intersections will provide a safe opportunity to overtake.”

- Four laning in Park Ridge South through to beyond the Granger Road and Stoney Ramp Road intersection
- Four laning and lisfting the section from Camp Cable Road through to Johanna/Tamborine Street
- Four laning and upgrading the intersection at Greenbank Road and Stockleigh Road
- Service lanes from Chambers Flat Road through to opposite Greenbank Road
- Service lanes in South Maclean to Stockleigh intersection to stop dangerous turn offs at Casuarina Road and Maclean Street
RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said the survey results would be sent to local and state governments to lobby for action.
