JIMBOOMBA Coles shoppers have raised more than $2000 to provide the equivalent of 11,900 meals to needy people in three weeks.
Coles Jimboomba partnered with SecondBite to provide nutritious meals to hungry Australians during winter.
Shoppers purchased $2 donation cards to contribute to the cause.
Jimboomba Coles store shoppers were among the top ten most generous in Queensland raising $2300 .
Coles Jimboomba store manager Steven Cooper said it was a remarkable achievement.
“We are very proud in the team and community for supporting our great cause,” he said.
Coles state general manager Jerry Farrell said the donations would provide practical support to vulnerable people.
“We have received an outstanding response from our customers who have united to support this important cause, with fundraising efforts in Jimboomba contributing to a total of more than $147,000 worth of donations across Queensland,” he said.
“While $2 might be a small contribution, it makes a big difference and we thank local shoppers for their commitment to helping people doing it tough this winter.”
All donations will support SecondBite’s expenses including fuel, transport, refrigeration and assisting charities with distributing surplus food.
The Jimboomba Coles store has donated surplus fruit and vegetables and bakery products to charities such as Able Australia since 2014.
SecondBite Chief executive officer Jim Mullan said the funds raised by Queensland stores would provide the equivalent of more than three million meals.
