LOGAN’S 2018-19 budget allocates $7 million in catalyst funding to Logan Village and Beenleigh to implement ideas born of placemaking peoples’ forums.
Treasurer and councillor Trevina Schwarz said the break down was $5 million for Beenleigh and $2 million for Logan Village.
Each was different but “we’re committed to seeing both flourish”, Cr Schwarz said.
Summits held in Beenleigh in October, Logan Village in March and Logan Central in May each attracted 500-plus submissions from residents, community groups and business leaders who attended.
City centres special committee chair Cr Jon Raven said the council would use the funds to advocate for state and federal grant funding.
Beenleigh, strategically located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, was earmarked for economic growth.
“It just needs a push to get it going,” he said.
Logan Village is imagined by locals as a place that trades on heritage, dining, arts and culture.
Cr Laurie Koranski welcomed the funding. She said the next step was to get forum players together to identify 10 key projects so planning could begin.
Logan’s placemaking summits launched in Springwood.
The last was held at Logan Central in May to discuss locals dreams for the city’s civic and cultural and heart.
The series continues with summits to roll out in centres including Meadowbrook which is home to Logan Hospital and Griffith University.
