IT’S all systems go at Flagstone where kids gathered to launch the start of works on a monster adventure playground that will be open in time for school holidays at year’s end.
Flagstone’s developers Peet Limited will invest $4 million to build the playground which is one of the biggest new community playgrounds planned in Queensland.
It features an 11-metre high tower – about the height of a three-storey building –with two sky cabins linked by a giant octanet and 19-metre long sky bridge.
Peet managing director and chief executive Brendan Gore said the massive adventure zone would be the centrepiece of Flagstone’s $12 million regional discovery park which is already home to a dog park, water play equipment and competition-standard skate plaza.
“We’re investing early and delivering early, to make sure there are great facilities in place as the community grows over the next 25 years,” Mr Gore said.
“Over the next 30 years we will be delivering one of Australia’s biggest new cities and its main park will be the focal point for the community now and into the future.”
The innovative playground design encompasses the three-storey high tower, twin 15-metre long racing slides, dual flying foxes and a four-way in-ground trampoline which is sure to appeal to both children and adults.
“The beauty of this design is that it gives children of all ages a chance to challenge themselves and test their boundaries in a safe but exhilarating environment,” Mr Gore said.
“Of course, safety is paramount, but that doesn’t mean play has to be boring.”
For those who prefer a gentler pace, the playground will feature a 35-metre S-curved swing with eight seats, a fossil dig with hidden “dinosaur” bones, a sensory caterpillar and nooks, crannies, mounds and apparatus to feed fertile imaginations and stimulate group and individual play.
A toddler town will provide a stimulating, sensory experience for young children and inclusive play for those with special needs.
Site works including foundations and utilities are underway.
Colourful play equipment will be be manufactured offsite and assembled in the park.
