YARRABILBA parkrun upgrades have been launched with a poem penned and presented by race director Peta Burns.
The welcome to runners and guests, thanks to sponsors and guide to the 5km course, were delivered in rhyming couplets.
Here’s a taste of Ms Burns’ rhymed guide to course tweaks at Darlington Parklands:
“We start at the start, like every parkrun; turn left at the rock wall for a change and some fun;
Past the splash pad, join the path and keep going around; follow the arrows, now marked on the ground;
Three laps you must do, counter clockwise, one way; I don’t think anybody will get lost today;
After three laps, cross the bridge you’re almost done; there’s only 300 m left to run;
Through the flags, take a token, they’re not souvenirs, Go straight to the table, you’ll get plenty of cheers.”
Yarrabilba is one of dozens of Australian communities that stage parkruns, making communities healthier, happier and more connected.
Athletes of all ages and abilities run, walk or stroll the course. Some bring pups on leads, others come with babes in prams.
More than 2300 athletes of all ages and abilities have run in more than 200 free weekly 5km Yarra parkruns.
Tracey Day and Steve Seiler celebrated their 100th runs on Sunday.
Cr Laurie Koranski dropped in to wish the runners well.
The new courses featured footpath stencils to help runners navigating the new track and made minor improvements to the course.
Mount Tamborine, Logan River, Coomera and Underwood Park also stage parkruns.
