AS THE dust settles from the first State of Origin clash, the Queensland Maroons are out for a different type of blood off-field.
A Queensland Maroons mobile blood donation centre has arrived at Greenbank for two days as part of an Australian Red Cross and NRL supported initiative to increase blood donations nationwide.
The donation centre arrived on June 8 and people can donate blood today between 9am and 4pm at 670 Middle Road.
The Queensland Maroons and NSW Blues encourage fans to get behind the program to claim the off-field State of Origin winner title as the state with the most fans willing to bleed for their team.
Queensland supporter Mike McCabe, of Munruben, did his bit for the cause on Friday.
“This is my 29th blood donation,” he said.
Australia needs more than 27,000 donations each week to help supply the Red Cross Blood Service.
Only one in 30 people donate blood. One in three will need blood sometime a lifetime.
