THE Little Athletes of Browns Plains can now stand where only elite athletes stood before them.
Logan Council offered the Browns Plains Little Athletics club one of more than 100 Commonwealth Games podiums reserved for gold, silver and bronze medalists.
The podiums were delivered in the afternoon on June 5 to the delight of young athletes literally jumping for joy.
Browns Plains Little Athletics coach Charlotte Halvorsen said the club jumped on the opportunity the moment it was offered.
“We did not want to miss out on them,” she said.
“We are going to use the podiums for our carnivals and presentations. They will be used for athletes at our club and for those who come to our carnivals.”
The Commonwealth Games podiums replace the old wooden podiums which have been used by the club for 31 years.
Ms Halvorsen said the podiums came at a good time with signups for the next little athletics season due on August 18.
“We cater for all abilities...there will be running, throwing and family fun,” she said.
Little Athletics Browns Plains has produced quality athletes, including Cody Freeman who was selected for under 13 Australian Little Athletics for javelin and shot put.
Little Athletics is open to all juniors aged four to 17 and runs from September 1 to March.
