AMELIA Pitcher can relate to the thousands of kids who lose their hair due to medical conditions.
This is why the eight-year-old Logan Village girl will bravely donate 38cm of her long hair to Variety the children’s charity on June 4.
Variety will pass the hair on to specialised wig makers to offer a confidence boost to sick children who lose their hair for reasons beyond their control.
Ms Pitcher said she would appreciate the kind gesture being returned if she was forced to confront leukemia or alopecia.
“I would like for someone to help me have more hair,” she said.
“I saw that I could donate hair on TV once and thought I would like to do it. I have told two of my friends about it and one of them has already done it.”
Ms Pitcher hopes businesses and the community can support her fundraising effort to provide practical equipment, programs and experiences to help vulnerable kids in hospital.
Variety CEO David Sexton said the generosity of young children was a heart-warming gesture.
“We can’t thank people like Amelia enough for her dedicated efforts to help us help Aussie kids,” he said.
“Amelia has been growing her hair for over 12 months...it means a lot to Amelia to be donating her hair because she wants to see other children be able to feel happy and beautiful even when they are feeling unwell.”
Amelia has already raised more than $1200 to the cause.
