AN EMERGING multicultural Panable Orchestra is on the path to performing on the public stage at Yarrabilba.
The group is made up of eight youth with Kiwi or African backgrounds and led by Trinidad born steel drum professional Alvin Rostant.
Panable orchestra administrator Jane Dear said the kids had already gotten of to a successful start.
“We are at the stage where the kids have learnt one song and are learning a second song,” she said.
“The goal is to have enough of a repertoire to get six to seven songs and perform in the public arena at festivals.
“We hope to have a fully functioning self sustaining orchestra that represents the cultural diversity of Yarrabilba.”
One of the songs already mastered is the Little mermaid hit ‘Under the Sea’.
The Panable orchestra met for their first practice session at the St Clare’s Catholic College Hall at 6.30pm on May 22.
The group meets every week with the support of grant funding from Logan City Council, Lendlease and Bendigo Bank.
Ms Dear said the orchestra would start with weekly one hour sessions and expand in the future.
“Eventually there will be space in Yarrabilba for a permanent home and then we can really start rehearsing for two to three hours,” she said.
“One hour is not long enough. We would like to have a whole night where the kids can come from 5pm and have dinner and learn songs more quickly,
“This will be a good way to get them stage ready.”
There is still room for more people to join the Yarrabilba Panable Orchestra and people can learn more about the program by visiting the link http://panableorchestra.com/.
