LOGAN Village has been re-imagined as a place that trades on its heritage, dining, art and culture.
An outcomes report submitted to Logan City Council outlines how the future of historic Logan Village will rest on 334 submissions with 490 ideas submitted at the recent Logan Village Summit at focus group meetings and an online forum.
The summit, which brought together residents, business owners and community groups in March, is part of Logan’s continuing program of summits which re-imagine city centres.
The last was held at Logan Central, putting the city’s cultural and civic heart under the microscope.
Summits that follow are expected to include one planned for Jimboomba early next year.
The Logan Village summit report recommends:
- Logan Village retain its rural atmosphere sense of community, village feel and heritage character
- growing the village as a tourist destination that focuses on outdoor trails and river experiences, food experiences, river activities and history
- improving moment and transport to and within the Village
- activating the village green, linking community space with outdoor activities and improving river access
Area councillor Laurie Koranski said work was dependent on council budgets but short term goals could include a playground upgrade and development of an event strategy for Logan Village Green, which already hosts community events like Eats and Beats. The next is on August 31.
Other short term goals identified by the report include:
- construction of a pedestrian walkway between Logan Village and the My Home and the River Estate
- setting up a coffee shop
Strategies which will be investigated over the long term include:
- new buildings that might include an old church or replica
- wi-fi on the Green
