BRISBANE Bronco stars Justin Hodges, Scott Prince, Elijah Alick and Jharal Yow Yeh visited Marsden State High School on Wednesday to promote student involvement in the indigenous ARTIE program.
The ARTIE program’s aim to achieve results through indigenous education focuses on a range of areas including consistent school attendance and engagement with cultural activities.
Former State of Origin great Jharal Yow Yeh shared his life experiences with Grade 7 to 9 students and participated in boomerang decorating and art activities.
Elijah, Justin Hodges and Scott Prince were part of a beyond the broncos presentation to grade 10 to 12 students mentoring them on attendance and work practices.
Marsden State High School deputy principal Colin Troyahn said the ARTIE program made a genuine difference.
“Through the program we get 50 pre-service teachers to tutor the kids in classes,” he said.
“They help them with maths, English and science.
“It also has a large influence having the Broncos here. It is really good having Elijah Alick here who plays in the under 20 Broncos side because he can walk around and talk to the kids...”
