JUNIOR dragster racer Lincoln Pilkington claimed victory in the first Junior Dragster Blast competition at Willowbank on April 14.
The nine-year-old Flagstone boy raced against four competitors in the C junior dragster class for kids aged eight to 10.
C Class junior dragster restricts cars to race 11.9 seconds over the 1/8 mile.
Pilkington convincingly defeated his opponents in two out of three races and the grand final race in a round robin competition.
Father Chris Pilkington said Lincoln’s year of experience in the drivers seat gave him a clear edge.
“His progression over the last two to three months has been astronomical and he is getting his head around racing,” he said.
“It is all about getting seat time and getting used to the car – a lot of people think this is about just driving fast in a straight line, but there is more to it than that.”
Lincoln will compete in round three of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships on May 12 and the Gulf Western Oils 51st Winternationals later this year at the Willowbank Raceway.
The Winternationals competition is the largest event held at Willowbank with more than 40 junior dragsters already entered.
His future goals are to win a drag racing track and national championship.
The Junior Dragster Blast attracted 25 racers aged 8 to 17 to the Willowbank Raceway, with organisers looking to make the race an ongoing competition.
