LOGAN City Council and the Queensland Police Service have launched a campaign to crack down on robbery crime following a Griffith University analysis.
The “phone down, eyes up” campaign will see advertisements placed at strategic spots to remind people to keep their personal property secure.
Detective inspector Tod Reid said a Griffith University analysis showed young men were most at risk of having their property stolen.
“The victims are mainly young men aged between 12-20 years old,” he said.
“Alongside our proactive strategy we are asking that they remain aware of their surroundings and keep your eyes up.
“Be smart with mobile devices and always keep your personal safety in mind when out walking or catching public transport.
“Ensure you have set up a PIN code for your phone and download any apps that may help you locate your phone if it is stolen.”
City Lifestyle and Community Committee chairperson councillor Steve Swenson said it was easy for people to be distracted when using mobile phone and electronic devices.
“We are encouraging people to be a bit more vigilant and be mindful of their surroundings when engaged with their devices, particularly when walking or using public transport.”
Anyone who suspects their phone has been stolen are encouraged to report the loss to Policelink on 131 444 and contact the service provider to disable the device and protect personal information.
Keep a written record of your phone serial number to help police identify it if recovered.
