SIX Jimboomba kids were in the global spotlight at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on April 15.
About 35 people from the Logan and Gold Coast Yugambeh Museum Youth Choir performed at the closing ceremony, including ten older singers in Archie Roach’s segment and 25 in a separate Jason Sandy segment.
Flagstone College students Kyeisha and Lowana Lane, Emmaus College students Bailey Gilbert, Dylan Gilbert and Riley Chenoweth and Jimboomba State School student Pinjarra Mason took part in the choir.
The choir is designed to teach youth to learn their own indigenous language through song.
Choir Master Candace Kruger said she was proud of the choir members who practiced hard leading up to the performance.
“Yugambeh Youth Choie kubil jarum (beautiful children) were standing tall and proud as they shared with the world a traditional piece,” she said.
Jimboomba Chicks Conquering Cancer president and mother of Kyeisha, Lowana and Pinjarra, Kathy Smith, said the choir performed with skill.
“I’m really proud they did really well under so much pressure. There were millions of people watching and they had been rehearsing for months,” she said.
