THE benefits of lifestyle activities for retirees such as trip away or travelling is worth it’s weight in gold.
Not only do they have the chance to revel in a new environment among friends, they also have an opportunity to immerse themselves in culture and the community.
Wongaburra leisure and lifestyle coordinator Heather Rogers said the upcoming annual trip to Bribie Island will provide relaxation and respite for the group of 15 residents.
“It's a holiday some of them have never been on them and a lot of people have never been on a beach or in a swimming pool,” she said.
“It's a huge important thing. It's a feeling of belonging and being connected.”
The residents are accompanied by Wongaburra trained staff and a registered nurse during their three night stay at Bribie Island Butterfly House.
“We sit up and play games,” she said. “We do swimming, fishing and go to the beach.”
Highlights of the trip include a boat cruise with lunch and a visit to the aviation museum.

Ms Rogers said Wongaburra encourage their residents to maintain independence.
“We're strong here about getting residents out in the community try to keep them connected,” she said. “We don't want them to be isolated.”
Residents have more to look forward to on return to Wongaburra with a Mother's Day celebration and an escorted motorbike ride.
