THREE Jimboomba athletes have been selected for the Australian team to compete at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, from July 10-15.
The athletes will leave Australia three weeks earlier to fly to Germany to compete in the under 20 championships and then do a competition in Finland prior to the championships.
They will also do a pre-departure camp in Townsville at the beginning of June.
The athletes are: Talosaga Kia, 16, who will compete in women’s discus; Ashley Moloney, 17, in the men’s decathlon (10 events – 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m on the first day and 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m on the second day); and Camryn Newton-Smith, 17, who in the women’s heptathlon (seven events – 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m on the first day and long jump, javelin and 800m on the second day).
Despite being selected to represent Australia, they have to pay a compulsory $4000 and are looking for sponsorship.
