BUSINESS owners and residents are being urged to check the authenticity of their cash following reports of counterfeit currency at Logan Village.
Jimboomba police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said Logan Village businesses reported the fake money on April 9.
“We are asking local businesses to have a look for obvious changes – check on the size of the notes, the detail in the plastic windows, the colour, thickness and the material they are made out of,” he said.
“If there are discrepancies call police.”
Police are looking at CCTV footage to investigate those responsible for circulating fake currency.

Tips to detect counterfeit currency
1. Is it plastic?: Try scrunching the note in your hand – a genuine note should spring back.
2. Look for the coat of arms: If you hold a note to the light you should see the Australian Coat of Arms.3.
3. Look for the star: If you hold the banknote up to the light, the patterns should line up perfectly to form a seven-pointed star
4. Check the clear window: Check that the white image printed on the window cannot be easily rubbed off.
