THE cost of adopting a cat from Logan City Council will be slashed in half for two weeks after the Animal Management Centre has had to contend with an influx of the furry creatures.
Kittens less than 12 months old will cost $85 and cats between one and five years old will cost $50 from Saturday, March 24.
All are de-sexed, microchipped, vaccinated, registered, health checked and wormed.
The Animal Management Centre cattery is designed to hold 15 cats at any given time and is currently housing 25 felines.
Logan City Council animal care committee chair councillor Jennie Breene said council was aiming to sell at least one cat each day during the discounted period.
“Many of these cats and kittens have been found as strays or left at the AMC’s holding pens and some have been looking for their new ‘best friend’ since late last year,” she said.
“The special applies to cats like Zac, a Tabby with a gorgeous nature who has been at the cattery since the 19th of October – he would be a loving and loyal companion to some lucky owner.
“If anyone has been thinking about getting a new cat for their family, now is a great time to do it while prices are reduced.”
Prospective pet owners must be prepared to provide adequate long-term care before deciding to adopt.
The Animal Management Centre is located in Queens Road at Kingston and is open between 9am-2pm on Saturday and 8.30am-4.30pm weekdays.
