JIMBOOMBA police senior sergeant Peter Waugh derided the stupidity of reckless motorists putting lives at risk this week.
Two drivers were caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h on Jimboomba roads.
This followed a horror week which ended in a Waterford West fatality, leaving two dead, a four vehicle crash on Camp Cable Road, and a traffic light being hit by a car on Millstream Road, off the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Senior Sergeant Waugh said a 17-year-old red P-plate driver was caught on radar travelling 134km/h in a 90 at 2pm on March 20 and a 23-year-old Acacia Ridge man was caught speeding 114km/h in a 70 zone on the Mount Lindesay Highway at 3pm, March 19.
Both motorists were fined $1177 and slapped with 8 demerit points.
He said there was zero tolerance for motorists blatantly ignoring road rules.
“It is dangerous stupidity, not only are you risking your own life but the lives of others,” he said.
Police will be increasing traffic patrols ahead of the upcoming Easter period.
Senior Sergeant Waugh urged residents travelling to the Gold Coast ahead of the Commonwealth Games to plan ahead.
“The M1 might be congested so if you are heading to the games leave early and think of the weather,” he said.
“Don’t get frustrated and take public transport if it is available to you.”
