JIMBOOMBA State School students achieved personal bests at one of the most competitive regional swimming competitions in Queensland on Monday.
Year 6 student Ryan Sutcliffe, Isabelle Gonzalez (Year 5) and Zarlee Browne (Year 5) represented Jimboomba at the South Coast Regional Swimming Championships at Miami Aquatic Centre on Monday.
Sutcliffe secured his place in the South Coast swimming team for 50 metre butterfly, freestyle and backstroke after placing second, sixth and fourth respectively.
He also came 10th in the 50 metre breaststroke and 13th in 100 metre freestyle.
Jimboomba State School Physical Education teacher Paul Ball said Sutcliffe was in contention to represent the Queensland side in butterfly.
“Ryan placing second in (butterfly) is looking good for maybe being an outside chance of making the Queensland team if he can keep up his good times,” he said.
“At the State Carnival the top five make the Queensland team.”
Gonzalez performed well despite not placing in the South Coast teaming, achieving a personal best time in 50 metre freestyle and a close to personal best time in 50 metre backstroke.
Browne came in 19th place for freestyle and 13th in butterfly.
Mr Ball said all three students performed well and were excellent role models for the school.
The regional competition followed the student’s stellar performances at the Pacific District Championships on February 9.
