WITH 30 years of experience under his belt, Greenbank speedway racer Steve Price is showing no signs of slowing down for the 2017-18 season.
Competing in the AMCA Nationals class, Price placed fourth in both the Australian and Victorian Titles held at the Ballarat Redline Raceway and the Swan Hill Sonic Speedway.
Price was particularly proud of his Australian Title race where he managed to stage a comeback from 20th place on the 40 lap race.
“The Australian Title feature race was probably one of the best drives of my career,” Price said.
“In any type of speedway racing, you really need to adjust your driving style to suit the track every time you race, which is something I think I’ve definitely improved this season, particularly having traveled interstate to race at some less familiar tracks.”
Following the Victorian title, Price decided to purchase a Kempy Chassis, complete with a 253ci engine to contest back to back feature races at the Archerfield speedway and Toowoomba Hi-Tec Oils speedway.
The new vehicle paid off, with Price claiming victory in both races.
“I really didn’t expect to be doing so well in the new car straight away and I believe I’m actually driving better now than I was 15 years ago,” he said.
“My recent results are really a credit to the efforts of my whole family, who have been absolutely incredible helping me with setup and preparation, as well as continuing to support me. There’s no way I’d be able to race without them and I can’t thank them enough.”
Price is seeking sponsorship to contest the upcoming South Australian Title, along with the two-night All Stars Series, at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway on the Easter long weekend.
The remainder of the season includes the NSW Title at the Sydney Valvoline Raceway on April 14 followed by the Queensland Title at Archerfield on May 5.
