SCENIC Rim Regional Council is running an event called Get Savvy for residents interested in health, fitness or social issues.
The Get Savvy expos will be held at The Centre Beaudesert, Tamborine Mountain Library and Boonah Cultural Centre, where stallholders will be offering free giveaways and information on everything from aged care to vision loss.
Mayor Greg Christensen said the expos were a mine of information for all ages, addressing a wide range of health and social issues faced by many members of the Scenic Rim community at some stage in their lives.
"Increasingly, aged care is a concern for many members of our community and their families and so care providers and allied organisations will be well represented at the Get Savvy events," he said.
"However, there's something for everyone, from savvy seniors to parents of pre-schoolers, as stallholders will have information on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, financial counselling, diet and nutrition, mental health and how to stay fit and healthy.
"A number of community organisations and sporting groups will also be represented so there's plenty of scope for anyone new to the region or looking for a new interest to connect with others."
Kelly Williams from the Stroke Foundation urged people to take advantage of the free services at the My Health For Life stall at the expo.
“Stop by and see Lorel to discuss your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease within the next five years,” she said.
“We will also be offering a free healthy lifestyle program for people who may be at risk for these conditions.”
Ms Williams said the Stroke Foundation also had an online self-assessment tool which people could access on their website.
Other organisations joining in on the day include Beaucare, Probus and U3A Beaudesert.
The Get Savvy expos will be held from 10am to 12pm on the following days and locations:
Tuesday March 13 at The Centre, Beaudesert
Wednesday March 14 at Tamborine Mountain Library
Thursday March 15 at Boonah Cultural Centre.
