RESIDENTS are being asked for ideas to unlock the economic potential of Logan Village, while maintaining its rich heritage character.
Next month the village will host Logan’s third engagement summit to discuss the future of the city’s main activity centres.
Cr Laurie Koranski said experts in place making and design, infrastructure policy, urban innovation and economic development would attend the event.
She encouraged residents to take part so council could hear what the community had to say about the village.
“Logan Village is a rare and unique gem and I am keen for us to work together to plan a bright future,” Cr Koranski said.
“The tagline for the forum is ‘where history meets opportunity’.”
Mayor Luke Smith said the forum would create a way forward for the suburb.
“Logan Village has a wonderful rural ambience and it’s those qualities that draw many people to the area, however we need to ensure it is well managed so we can preserve what’s great about it,” he said.
“Council’s vision for Logan Village is to build a vibrant and thriving riverside destination in Logan.”
The Logan Village township was surveyed in July 1865 after serving as the location of a wharf and store to service a plantation at Veresdale (then known as Townsvale).
City centres special committee chairman Cr Jon Raven said forums in Springwood and Beenleigh had generated great ideas.
“Each summit is a great opportunity for council to listen to residents so that we can make the kinds of investments they want to see in our city centres,” he said.
“I know the Logan Village Forum will produce great outcomes that will enrich the area for years to come.”
The forum will be at the Lions Community Hall, 21-23 Wharf Street, Logan Village.
Residents can attend one of two sessions on Wednesday, March 7 from 11am to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 8pm.
