UPDATE 4pm
IN AN updated severe storm warning, the Bureau of Meteorology warned that storms were detected near Kooralbyn, Yarraman, Nanango and Lamington National Park at 4pm.
They are forecast to affect Boonah, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, Laravale and the area north of Nanango by 4:30 pm and Beaudesert, Canungra, Harrisville and Haden by 5:00 pm.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
EARLIER
A SEVERE storm warning has been issued for parts of the Scenic Rim.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned at 3.21pm that damaging winds and large hailstones were likely.
Severe thunderstorms had been detected near Border Ranges National Park, the NSW border and the area south of the NSW border.
BOM forecast the storms would affect Rathdowney and Kooralbyn by 3:55 pm and Beaudesert, the McPherson Range, Laravale and the area south of Canungra by 4:25 pm.
Earlier today golf ball size hail was reported at Mount Sylvia (south of Gatton), 2 centimetre hail was reported at Ipswich and the 35 millimetres of rain in 25 minutes was recorded at Atkinson Dam.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure loose outdoor items.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
