UPDATE 8.25pm
POWER outages have been reported across south-east Queensland, with Logan again hardest hit, but to a far lesser extent than after Sunday night’s storm.
At 8.25pm, 3100 houses were without power in Logan. Boronia Heights was the worst affected suburb, with 1350 properties plunged into darkness.
A total of 325 in the Scenic Rim Regional Council were affected by the power outage.
The Bureau of Meteorology reported at 8.22pm that thunderstorms had eased across the region.
UPDATE 8pm
SEVERE thunderstorms are expected to affect Amity Point, Moreton Bay and Kilkivan by 8.25pm and southern Moreton Island by 8.55pm.
This is according to a updated warning for the Redlands and parts of Gympic, Logan, Gold Coast and Brisbane, issued at 7.54pm.
The thunderstorms were moving towards the north to northeast.
EARLIER
DAMAGING winds and heavy rainfall are the main threat of a thunderstorm sweeping through south-east Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 7.24pm for Logan, Redland, Scenic Rim, Brisbane, Ipswich, South Burnett, Lockyer Valley, Gold Coast and Moreton Bay council areas.
A total of 33 millimetres of rain was recorded in 15 minutes at Macleans Bridge, near Jimboomba.
Hail measuring 2 centimetres and winds up to 100km/h was reported south of Rathdowney at 6.10pm.
BOM warned the storms were detected near Beenleigh at 7.25pm and were forecast to affect Cleveland by 7.55pm.
“Damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely,” according to the warning.
Golfball size hail and a 113km/h wind gust was reported at Oakey around 5pm and an 83km/h wind gust was reported at Wellcamp Airport at 4:40pm.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
