LOGAN mayor Luke Smith says the decision to sack chief executive Sharon Kelsey was based on her performance.
He said he would speak to councillors who had been talking negatively about the city in the aftermath of last week’s special council meeting.
Last Wednesday seven councillors voted in favour of Ms Kelsey’s dismissal after a six-month probationary period and five against.
“The decision that was made by council was made on her performance and her performance alone,” Cr Smith said.
Asked for detail, he said there were things raised with Ms Kelsey but out of respect for her, he would not comment.
Cr Smith said he would address some councillors who had talked negatively about the city because residents deserved better.
“There’s been some very disgraceful things said by councillors about this city,” he said.
“We’re not paid to denigrate this city.”
Road and water infrastructure director Silvio Trinca has been appointed interim chief executive.
Cr Smith said council was looking for a chief executive officer and had whittled the list down to four applicants.
Logan is one of the councils that formed part of the CCC’s Operation Belcarra investigation, held in response to complaints about the conduct of candidates at the 2016 local government elections.
The CCC released its report on the investigation in October, saying that allegations about Cr Smith were still being finalised.
