THE emotional toll of dealing with cancer is devastating enough without having to worry about financial costs hanging over your head.
This is why the Jimboomba Chicks Conquering Cancer groups wants women, men and kids affected by cancer to know they aren’t alone.
Secretary of Chicks Conquering Cancer Ky Booth said the goal of the organisation was to make life easier for people going through a hard time.
“We do lots of different things like transporting people to and from appointments, we console them and have chats with people and listen to them when they need it most,” she said.
“We try and help financially where we can with different medical expenses.”
The group’s admirable aims would not be possible without constant fundraising efforts.
Chicks Conquering Cancer will hold their first bingo night this year at the Jimboomba Community Hall on February 16 from 6pm to 9pm.
President Kathy Smith said the monthly bingo fundraiser was all about supporting people in need.
“The money we raise goes back to the community for people affected by cancer, whether through vouchers or cleaning and yard maintenance and transport and parking,” she said.
“The bills don’t stop for these people and we try to help as much as we can.”
Chicks Conquering Cancer also have ambitions to expand this year, with the goal of establishing an OP shop.
Ms Smith said there was still some work to be done before this could be achieved.
“We would like to have a place where people can come any time and make appointments,” she said.
“If we do get an OP shop it will help the process and by the end of the year we would like to be in something.”
