To those with little imagination, who say "there is no way something that farcical could happen in big-time cricket", the Melbourne Renegades' women ask, "how high do you want us to jump?"
Less than three weeks ago, the Renegades almost lost to the Sydney Sixers after a premature celebration from wicketkeeper Emma Inglis allowed the Sixers a tieing run, forcing the game into a super over. The Renegades escaped that day in Geelong.
Yesterday at the MCG, they had captain Amy Satterthwaite recalled after she'd taken off her pads, and hit a six off the final ball of their innings to force a super over. Then, after both teams' super overs, Satterthwaite still wasn't sure whether her side had won.
It turns out they'd lost, on a countback of boundaries, having been thwarted by a dropped catch off the penultimate ball of the super over, and a 16-year-old bowler who used to play for them.
It must be infuriating for the Renegades, whose chances of making the WBBL finals for the first time now hang by a thread.
Wins in all of their last three games will get them there, but it could have been so much easier.
Saturday's loss to the Melbourne Stars - second-last on the ladder - was the second time they'd lost to their crosstown rivals in a fortnight. In between those defeats the Renegades were also beaten by the Hobart Hurricanes, who had been winless beforehand.
The Stars won the toss at the MCG on Saturday, but despite some big-hitting from opener Lizelle Lee (31 from 26 balls) they slumped to 5-78 in the 15th over. A 38-run stand from Anna Lanning (21 not out from 21) and Alana King (22 from 17) helped their side to 6-118.
An impressive spell from teenager and former Renegade Annabel Sutherland (2-11 from four overs) put the Renegades on the back foot in the chase, and they looked in dire trouble at 5-69 after Satterthwaite walked off the ground having been run out in the 13th over following a mix-up with Hayley Jensen.
But after a lengthy delay, the umpires recalled Satterthwaite after it was determined by replays that Stars wicketkeeper Nicole Faltum had dislodged the bails with her gloves, rather than with the ball.
The Renegades needed 12 to win off the final over, and after three singles, a dot ball and a two, they needed a huge hit from their captain to keep the match alive.
Satterthwaite was up to the task, whacking Georgia Elwiss over deep mid-wicket.
The Renegades batted first in the super over, with Claire Koski hitting a four from Erin Osborne to the long-on boundary. But they soon fell in a hole, with consecutive catches in the deep and a run out from King pegging things back in the direction of the Stars, who restricted the Renegades to 4-10.
Jensen then bowled a disciplined super over, and should have had Lee caught in the deep with the fifth ball.
But Maitlan Brown dropped the South African, before Lee and Mignon du Preez scampered two down the ground to level the scores, which was enough for a Stars win, even though it took a few moments for most to realise.
Satterthwaite couldn't quite fathom how her side had again been involved in such a bizarre and dramatic match.
Moreover though, she lamented the wasted chances.
"When the pressure comes on in that super over you've got to get the little things right," she said.
"To lose [the] wickets was pretty criminal.
"[Then] we dropped that catch ... that was probably the game for us."
The Stars have less than a day to recover for their match against the Sydney Sixers at Casey Fields, while the Renegades are next in action against Sydney Thunder on Wednesday in Canberra.
